The History Of Writing Systems

Latin Script

The Latin script is also known as the Roman script, and it is the most widely used alphabetic writing system used worldwide. The English alphabet is derived from the Latin script, which is fascinating to learn. I found it interesting that the Latin script was developed from the Etruscan alphabet sometime before 600 B.C, and it can also be traced through the Greeks and Phoenician scripts. I also learned that the script could be found in Syria and even in Palestine, dating back to around 1100 B.C.

The possibility of the earliest known inscription in the Latin alphabet seems to appear on the Praeneste Fibula, dating from the 7th century B.C.
