Hieroglyphs
The Egyptian Hieroglyphs can be arguably regarded as one of the earliest writing systems. Numerous books and sources indicate that these hieroglyphs date back to around 3200 B.C. They were considered a form of “holy writing,” with the term “hieroglyphs” itself originating from the Greek words “hiero,” meaning ‘holy,’ and “glypho,” meaning ‘writing.’
Considering different perspectives on what constitutes a writing system, it’s undeniable that Egyptian Hieroglyphs are present on pottery, with some examples dating back thousands of years before the formal recognition of it as a writing system.
