Phoenician Alphabet
Just like much of ancient Mesopotamia, the Phoenician language started with the use of cuneiform. But interestingly, the first signs of the Phoenician alphabet found at Byblos were not in cuneiform but in Egyptian hieroglyphics.
The Phoenician alphabet is an alphabet known in modern times that comes from the Canaanite and Aramaic inscriptions.
Only a few inscriptions have been found in Canaan, dating between the 17th and 15th centuries B.C. However, what’s fascinating about this is that the Phoenician language, culture, and writing resemble many of the ancient Egyptians. What this means to me is that the ancient Egyptians were heavy influencers on the Phoenicians.
