The Aztec Empire-The Aztecs
The Aztec Empire was founded around 1345 A.D. to 1521 A.D. and was primarily located in northern Mesoamerica. However, the Valley of Mexico was initially settled around 1100 A.D. to 1200 A.D. by migrating tribes such as the Chichimecs, Tepanecs, Mexica, and Acolhua tribes.
The capital of the Aztec civilization was the city of Tenochtitlan, now known as Mexico City. The Aztec civilization stands out as one of the most well-documented Mesoamerican civilizations. Agriculture and trade played essential roles in the Aztec society, contributing significantly to the civilization’s flourishing.
As I understand it from various scholars whose books I have read, the Aztec civilization suggests that Aztec mythology shares striking similarities with what the ancient Mesopotamians believed in.
In the context of the Aztecs’ belief in Quetzalcoatl, many scholars posit that Quetzalcoatl may be linked to Ningišzida, an Anuna god from ancient Mesopotamian myths. An additional intriguing possibility, if true, is that Thoth, an Egyptian God, could also be associated with Ningišzida.
Anytime “god” is used, I wonder if a man could have been deified as a god.
This brings me back to where did it all begin.
