Ancient Chinese Writing System
When I first learned about the history of the ancient Chinese writing system, I learned that there may have possibly been 4 phases until its perfection. Jiaguwen, what may be the earliest form, was found on Oracle bones that date to around 1600-1000 B.C.
I’ve also learned that it was believed that the Mesopotamian script might have been of some influence. One of the earliest known Chinese alphabets dates from the period of what is known as the Shang Dynasty.
The Chinese writing system seems to use what is known as a logographic system. It’s a series of symbols representing a complete word or phrase, reminding me of hieroglyphics.
