Christianity began sometime in the 1st century A.D. and was shortly followed by Islam around the 7th century A.D.
Where to Begin
There are many debates about the first civilization here on Earth. I googled the word “civilization” and discovered that certain essential criteria must be met to be considered a civilization, such as having multiple cities with distinct cultural and technological advancements. However, even with these criteria, there is still room for interpretation regarding which could be considered the first civilization. Nevertheless, I have learned that the Sumerians are widely regarded as the founders of one of the earliest civilizations on Earth.
According to some academic scholars, the Sumerians believed that the city of Eridu was built around 5400 B.C. They believed it was first founded by their “gods” and served as the residence of their great god, Enki. Based on my readings and the use of multiple sources, it is evident that there existed a hierarchy among the Anunnaki, with An being considered “the almighty god of the Anunnaki.”

It’s quite surprising that there’s a website called http://etcsl.orinst.ox.ac.uk which is really helpful for researching ancient Mesopotamia and the Anuna/Anunnaki. Through my exploration of that website, as well as reading books and watching documentaries, I’ve learned that the Sumerians, who were called the black-headed people, strongly believed in the Anuna. It’s similar to how Christians believe in God and Muslims believe in Allah. The connections between these belief systems from different times and cultures are truly astonishing!
Understanding the connection between the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, and Hittites helps me gain insights into the possible origins of the Bible.
Zecharia Sitchin’s Ideas
According to Zecharia Sitchin, the Anunnaki were a group of gods described by the Sumerians as what seems to be giants, and they were believed to be highly intelligent beings. Based on his understanding of ancient texts from the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, and Hittites, Sitchin explains that the Anunnaki originated from a planet called Nibiru/Nibru. In Akkadian, Nibiru/Nibru translates to ‘crossing place’ or ‘place of transition’.
I have come across various books that discuss the Anunnaki’s purpose for coming to Earth, and it is often attributed to Zecharia Sitchin. According to Sitchin’s theory, which is emphasized by numerous individuals in books and documentaries, the Anunnaki arrived on Earth in search of gold. This idea of their need for gold is a recurring theme that can be traced back to Sitchin’s work.
Zecharia Sitchin is among the many scholars who claimed to possess the ability to read clay tablets and interpret ancient Sumerian, Akkadian, and other ancient texts. His evidence consists of texts and pictorial evidence documented by the ancient civilizations of the Near East.

However, when comparing Zecharia Sitchin’s claims about the Anunnaki to The Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature (ETCSL), it becomes evident that Nibiru was simply an ancient Mesopotamian city, rather than a planet as Sitchin suggests.
Comparative Studies.
There exist numerous theories and opinions regarding the mythology of the Sumerians and their belief in the Anunnaki. I have gathered knowledge from both Zecharia Sitchin and Michael S. Heiser, Ph.D., a scholar in Hebrew and Semitic Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Interestingly, Dr. Heiser has dedicated a website to debunking Sitchin’s work, highlighting its lack of credibility.
I have read Dr. Michael S. Heiser’s work on his website, http://www.sitchiniswrong.com/letter/letter.htm. From his writing and that of Zecharia Sitchin, I’ve learned that things can be understood in different ways. However, it’s important to consider more than just one piece of information. Many details and sources need to be taken into account. For example, there are still many cuneiform tablets that haven’t been translated yet. I also found out that Sitchin had access to rare cuneiform tablets that others didn’t, which means he had some unique information. This makes me think that both Sitchin and Heiser had different pieces of the puzzle.
In my previous articles shared on this website, I have discussed the Anunnaki, who some relate to ancient astronauts.
My interest in the Anunnaki arose from reading the Bible (KJV) and seeking a deeper understanding of God’s nature. Until I am fully satisfied with the knowledge I acquire, my quest for understanding will continue.

I have read evey book the late Zechariah Sitchin wrote, and I believe he was a credible Author, with abilities to read the Cuneiform Tablets and deciphering them correctly. I read his works as far back as the 1980’s, continuing as he produced further books. Again, I reiterate, I believe his writings are accurate, and am thankful for his groundbreaking work.
I find his work amazing.
