“Enki, A GOD, And Its Creation”

Numerous studies have consistently shown the existence of multiple hominid species on Earth, dating back millions of years to when the first hominid species began to walk upright, a trait known as bipedalism, highlighting the evolutionary diversity of our early ancestors.

The Similarities

Many scholars have recognized similarities between the Anunnaki gods, the Greek gods, the Mesoamerican gods, and the ancient Egyptian gods. Many of these scholars have spent countless hours researching the possibility that some of the Anunnaki gods could have been some of these other gods worshiped worldwide through various religions.

Using pictographs, symbolism, and other techniques, these correlations were made.

Khnum, an ancient Egyptian god, closely resembles Enki, an Anunnaki god. Khnum was an ancient Egyptian god who used a potter’s wheel to create humans from clay. He was first worshipped in the first dynasty, 2925-2775 B.C.

I’ve also read that Ptah, another ancient Egyptian god shared some similarities with Enki. Of course, there is no conclusive evidence of Enki being Khnum or Ptah. But because I am reminded about the Tower of Babel events, there is a possibility for Enki being represented under different names because of other spoken languages.

Who is Enki

Enki was an Anunnaki god worshipped in Sumer, also known as Shinar in the Holy Bible. He was depicted as a bearded god wearing a horned cap, long robes, or a fish suit of some type. From what I understand, the first attestations of Enki appeared sometime in the Early Dynastic Period IIIa (2600–2350 B.C.). The home to this Anunnaki god was Eridu in Sumer, ancient Mesopotamia, possibly dating back to around 5400 B.C. He is credited for creating humanity and saving humanity from the Deluge/the great flood by warning Zi-ud-sura/Noah.

Enki and Ninmaḫ: c.1.1.2
At the word of his mother Namma, Enki rose up from his bed. In Ḫal-an-kug, his room for pondering, he slapped his thigh in annoyance. The wise and intelligent one, the prudent, …… of skills, the fashioner of the design of everything brought to life birth-goddesses (?). Enki reached out his arm over them and turned his attention to them. And after Enki, the fashioner of designs by himself, had pondered the matter, he said to his mother Namma: “My mother, the creature you planned will really come into existence. Impose on him the work of carrying baskets. You should knead clay from the top of the abzu; the birth-goddesses (?) will nip off the clay and you shall bring the form into existence. Let Ninmaḫ act as your assistant; and let Ninimma, Šu-zi-ana, Ninmada, Ninbarag, Ninmug, …… and Ninguna stand by as you give birth. My mother, after you have decreed his fate, let Ninmaḫ impose on him the work of carrying baskets.” (5 lines fragmentary)…… she placed it on grass and purified the birth.

Enki and Ninmaḫ: c.1.1.2
Enki answered Ninmaḫ: “I will counterbalance whatever fate — good or bad — you happen to decide.” Ninmaḫ took clay from the top of the abzu in her hand and she fashioned from it first a man who could not bend his outstretched weak hands. Enki looked at the man who cannot bend his outstretched weak hands, and decreed his fate: he appointed him as a servant of the king.

The Flood story: c.1.7.4
……seat in heaven. …… flood. …… mankind. So he made ……. Then Nintur ……. Holy Inana made a lament for its people. Enki took counsel with himself. An, Enlil, Enki and Ninḫursaĝa made all the gods of heaven and earth take an oath by invoking An and Enlil. In those days Zi-ud-sura the king, the gudug priest, ……. He fashioned ……. The humble, committed, reverent ……. Day by day, standing constantly at ……. Something that was not a dream appeared, conversation ……, …… taking an oath by invoking heaven and earth. In the Ki-ur, the gods …… a wall. Zi-ud-sura, standing at its side, heard: “Side-wall standing at my left side, ……. Side-wall, I will speak words to you; take heed of my words, pay attention to my instructions. A flood will sweep over the …… in all the ……. A decision that the seed of mankind is to be destroyed has been made. The verdict, the word of the divine assembly, cannot be revoked. The order announced by An and Enlil cannot be overturned. Their kingship, their term has been cut off; their heart should be rested about this. Now ……. What …….” (approx. 38 lines missing)

Enki was the son of An (his father) and Namma (his mother). Being the oldest son, the number of siblings he had isn’t sure. His consort was Damgalnuna, also known as Ninhursag. Enki did have children, and some of them were not by his consort.

What I’ve Learned

• Enki was the 3rd most powerful Anunnaki god.
• Enki was known as the god of water.
• Enki was sometimes depicted as a man wearing a fish suit.
• Enki was in charge of mining for precious metals and stones.
• Enki is also known as Ea, Enkig, Nudimmud, Ninsiku.

When it comes to who created humans, it’s usually credited to Enki. When I first learned that, it became obvious from the many books I’ve read that what’s written in the Holy Bible is retold from many oral traditions from Africa to ancient Mesopotamia.

Similarities with other gods 

• Khnum: Egyptian god, used clay to create humans.
• Oannes: Mesopotamian mythology, Fish god, depicted as a fish but with the head of a man under his fish’s head
• Ptah: There is evidence that suggests that Enki may have also been Ptah (if this is true, I have read that Hephaistos was identified with the Egyptian god Ptah and the Italian god Volcanos-Adranos)

There are many stories about different gods being creators of humans but what fascinates me is that the first written record goes to the Sumerians. They once verbally shared their beliefs about their deities, which later appeared in sacred texts worldwide, from the Holy Bible to the Quran. But because of the Tower of Babel incident, the way each person interprets religious texts could be different. And that will lead to disagreements and debates.

As I’ve stated in previous articles, no one book has the entire history of humanity written inside it. That book would be huge! However, anyone who truly wants to know will seek information from every source given to them. There are breadcrumbs full of information out there, and to truly understand it all, it will take countless hours of exploring information from outside an individual’s comfort zone.
